Cornwall Cricket Club is situated at Cornwall Park, Auckland - capital of New Zealand. Cornwall CC is amongst New Zealand’s oldest and most famous clubs. Cornwall CC began in 1895 as Ponsonby Cricket Club, in the course of time the club amalgamated with other clubs and was known by different names.
The Club’s Aim & Vision is to deliver to members an outstanding all round cricket experience. Some of the primary roles of the club ensure promotion of grass root cricket and grow cricket in local community, foster participation in the game of cricket & maintaining the tradition & culture of Cornwall.
The club has produced many of New Zealand's finest cricketers, including Martin and Jeff Crowe, Adam Parore, Mark Greatbatch, Rodney Redmond and Graham Vivian.
The Cornwall Park has three pitches and has full time groundsman for ground maintenance and a full time manager. The Cornwall cricket club is established and has somewhat gained a legendary status in the Auckland Cricket Association (A.C.A).
Cornwall CC currently has seventeen Senior Men’s teams including one Women’s team and almost a hundred junior teams. It is believed to be the largest club in Australasia in terms of Membership. (Australasia: Region covering Australia, New Zealand, Islands of New Guinea and the neighbouring islands in the Pacific Ocean).
The Board of Cornwall CC includes Mr. Ian W. Dee as the chairman from the past 10 years and Mr. Rex Smith as the Premier Mens Coach and Mr. Jonathan Cleland as the Treasurer and four other board members.
As the club has lot of teams in Senior Mens Category, Womens Category and lots of Junior Teams, various teams play specific formats of cricket and represent their team. Some of the formats are One Day Teams, Two Day Teams, T20 Teams and Youth Teams etc.
The Cornwall CC provides great facilities to its members. The Clubrooms consist of the Pavilion, together with changing rooms, full catering facilities and a tuck shop. Opened in 1955, the Pavilion houses a licensed bar and a massive 54” television, complete with Sky Digital. New Covered Nets have also been built for the players to practice. The nets are being increased to three lanes and the run ups will be extended 5 meters to allow for full run ups for senior members and for fielding practice to take place in the facility. New artificial turf will be laid within the facility to cap off what will be great facility.
This is a real success for the club and the facility is something we hope will cater for all members and is a huge step towards offering first class facilities to our membership.
Cornwall has been named Auckland Club of the Year three times. Cornwall CCs Men’s Premier team were the 2008 Southern Trust National Club Champions. They have also won the ACA Two Day Championship for eight of the last fourteen seasons - an unprecedented feat in Auckland Club Cricket.
